Ivan Nechui-Levytsky (1838-1918) is an outstanding Ukrainian realist writer, who wrote short stories and depictions of people's lives, which are the most important and classically finished part of his work. The master of the word aimed to dig in and develop as deeply as possible the "unfinished mines" of Ukrainian life and to create true images of people from all social classes. Vivid figures and characters, juicy humor, and a bold fusion of serious and even tragic with comic turned Nechuy-Levytsky's works into real pearls of Ukrainian prose.
