In the Galician village of Peretin, life is slow and even uninteresting. Perhaps the only exception in the middle of the gray everyday life is the confrontation between supporters of the Ukrainian 'Enlightenment' and Muscovites, which sometimes escalates into a fight. However, the quiet life ends abruptly on a fine July day in 1914, when the inhabitants of Peretin find out of the beginning of war.
